Mosquitoes survive the harsh and frigid temperatures of the winter season by entering a state of hibernation through which they protect themselves.
All stages of the mosquito life cycle have the ability to enter into hibernation, even the adult mosquitoes.
During the winter, the mosquito pupa and larva will dramatically lower their metabolism and biological activities, allowing them to wait out the frigid temperatures.
When temperatures rise again and are more conducive to the mosquitoes survival, they will emerge from hibernation and resume their normal activities.
