How to Pack Avocado for Lunch?

avocado skinsIt is a great idea to bring an avocado with you to work or school as a healthy addition to your lunch. But avocados turn brown quickly after being cut open, and many schools and workplaces do not allow knives on their premises.

So what is the best way to keep that avocado fresh and beautifully green while it sits in your lunch bag? Well, I recommend using an avocado saver, which is an awesome kitchen tool designed for just this purpose.

The avocado saver fits half of the avocado perfectly and keeps it airtight so that oxidation cannot occur. This keeps it green and fresh for hours and even days after you have cut the avocado. The device even has an artificial pit so that the inside of the avocado where the pit was removed will also be protected from exposure to air.

In the absence of one of these awesome tools, I recommend that you drizzle the exposed flesh of the avocado with lemon or lime juice, and then quickly seal it in an airtight bag or container. The juice’s acidity will keep the flesh of the avocado fresh longer, but it is not as effective as an avocado saver.

The absolute best way to pack your avocado for lunch is whole, if you can. This requires the use of a knife, however, so make sure that your workplace or school does not have regulations preventing knives on their grounds beforehand.
