Do Fleas Molt?

There are four stages in the life cycle of a flea, and it does molt several times during one of these, the larval stage. You may view and illustrated guide of the flea life cycle in our flea image gallery below.

After emerging from the egg, the flea larva will molt three or four times before it progresses to the pupa stage, in which it wraps itself in a cocoon.

This stage lasts no more than a few weeks during which time the larva is blind and feeds upon the feces of adult fleas as well as other organic material that it finds in its environment.
