In extreme cases of flea bites, when an infection has set in or when a doctor or veterinarian suspects that an infection is likely to occur, antibiotics may be necessary.
In most cases, however, antibiotics are not needed for flea bites because they don’t pose a significant risk of infection.
A flea bite is similar to a mosquito bite and will usually go away on its own in a matter of days.
But if the skin is broken and bleeding from scratching or biting of the bites, especially in the case of dogs or cats who have been tormented by hundreds of flea bites, the wounds may become infected.
