If you have a flea infestation in your home and you don’t have any pets, it is probably because there are tiny flea eggs and flea pupa hidden in the carpeting, upholstery, and other areas where you cannot see them.
When fleas hatch from their eggs, the larvae molt three times before weaving themselves inside a silken cocoon, inside which they can lie dormant for many months waiting for a suitable host to enter into its environment.
The flea pupa can detect the presence of a host by minute vibrations in the air and ground caused by the movement of an animal or a person, and they also can detect increased carbon dioxide levels produced by mammals.
So even though you don’t have any pets, these immature fleas are stimulated into action out of dormancy when they detect your presence, and go in search of a blood meal.
In order to kill the flea infestation, you will want to use one or several flea killers designed for use inside the home. Diatomaceous earth is an all-natural type of flea powder that you can spread in the carpeting and flooring of your home, and it will kill all stages of the flea life cycle.
