Even if you don’t have any pets, it’s easy to get a flea infestation in an apartment or condominium because the units are so close to each other that the fleas don’t have very much distance to travel to get to your home.
Additionally, the previous occupants of the apartment may have had pets and may have had a flea infestation. Flea pupa can be difficult to see and can lay dormant for months until they detect movement in the presence of a host.
If you have pets in your apartment, make sure that you get them on monthly medications such as Frontline because it will kill any adult fleas within 12 hours of the initial application. That is the first thing you need to do if you have a cat or dog.
You can also spread a flea powder throughout your apartment, especially around the perimeter where fleas can get in, and also in the carpeting if you have any. If you prefer, a flea spray can be used in the same manner. Both the powder in the spray will kill all stages of the flea life cycle.
