How Often Do Mosquitoes Feed?

Both male and female adult mosquitoes feed daily on their main source of food, which is the nectar of flowers and plants, and other sugary substances.

This nectar provides the energy required for flight and all of its other daily activities.

As far as feeding on blood, the female mosquito does so approximately every 7 to 10 days while she is in the adult stage of her life cycle and capable of reproducing.

When the mosquito feeds on a blood meal, it takes about two or three days for the blood to be fully digested, during which time her body is producing mosquito eggs which will be laid nearby a standing water source.

Generally, the female will then wait approximately 3 to 10 more days before she feeds again on the blood of a human or other animal.
