What Do Flea Bites Look Like on Dogs?

Flea bites on dogs look like raised red bumps with a single puncture wound in the center, similar to a mosquito bite. They are often clumped together or in a line along the skin. You may view our flea image gallery below in order to see a picture of flea bites on a dog.

Because the flea bites produce an allergic reaction in the dog which causes itching, many times there will be scratch marks or bite marks on the dog skin where the flea bites are.  There may be broken skin and bleeding, or even the loss of hair on dogs that have many flea bites.

Fleas are parasites that feed on the blood of your dog, and they can reproduce extremely quickly and cause misery for you and your pet.

It is important to administer flea medication to your dog in order to get the infestation under control. Flea medication will kill virtually all of the adult fleas within 12 hours and prevent them from reproducing.

In the meantime, you can give your dog a bath using a mild detergent, which is usually sufficient to kill the fleas currently on his body.
