Due to their great number of predators, mosquitoes have a very high mortality rate, and less than 10% of juvenile mosquitoes live to reach the adult stage of the lifecycle.
Mosquito larva and pupa live just below the surface of a standing water source, as they are developing into adults.
Many different species of fish eat these mosquito pupa and larva, as do dragonflies and many other types of flying insects.
Adult mosquitoes may be eaten by birds, lizards and other reptiles, and flying insects.
