Flea Medicine
If you have pets, flea medication is essential and the most important product for containing a flea infestation. Frontline Plus and Advantage are the two best brands, in my opinion, and you can’t go wrong with either. Both kill 99.9% of adult fleas within 12 hours.
Flea Powder
I prefer the organic diatomaceous earth powder that has no pesticides or chemicals. Make sure to buy food grade if you have pets. It not only kills adult fleas, but the larvae as well. Great for carpeting, floorboards, and you can put it directly on your pet, too.
Flea Spray
Flea spray is good for treating furniture, bedding, upholstery, etc., and this liquid insecticide is better for the yard and around the perimeter of your home.
Flea Shampoo
Giving your dog or cat a bath with a flea shampoo will immediately kill all the adult fleas tormenting him.
Flea Comb
Fleas can be difficult to see with the naked eye, and a flea comb makes it easy to brush out flea eggs and adult fleas from the skin and fur of your pet.
Natural Oils for Flea Repellant
Certain oils make for great natural flea repellent. Tea tree oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, neem oil, and lemongrass oil can all be diluted in a spray bottle to be used as natural flea repellent for humans, pets, and upholstery.
Flea Bites Treatment
Flea bites are best treated with hydro-cortisone to reduce swelling, and calamine lotion or aloe vera to reduce itching.
Flea Traps
Flea traps can control small areas, and are best used in conjunction with other methods of flea control, but traps are not my first choice for flea control.
Flea Bombs
A flea bomb spreads insecticide throughout an entire room, killing all life cycle stages of fleas. All people and pets must leave the house when you set off a flea bomb, and the house must be thoroughly ventilated when you return. Not one of my favorites because of these drawbacks.
