Using a flea comb on your cat or dog is a pretty straightforward process. Just gently brush the comb through your pets fur and along the skin, and you will see that it filters out adult fleas and other debris.
You will most likely also find flea eggs, larva, and pupa, which are the stages of the flea life cycle that have not yet developed into adults.
The flea comb will quite likely also filter out flea dust, which is the excrement of adult fleas as well as dried blood remnants left over from their feeding. Flea dust looks like dried coffee grounds.
Grooming your cat or dog with a flea comb is a great way to get rid of the fleas currently on them, and reduce their suffering and potential for flea bites.
But a flea comb should be used only as a supplement to other measures of flea control, with pet medication being essential.
