Are Fleas Affected by Humidity Levels?

Fleas are most active when humidity levels and temperature are within their desired range, and can even become dormant when the environmental conditions are not suitable to them.

Fleas prefer very high humidity levels, the higher the better, and when the humidity dips below 70% there will be a drop off in flea activity.  Optimal temperatures for fleas is between 70°F and 85°F.

So, flea infestations thrive in hot and humid climates. In the United States, Florida and other areas in the Southeast during the summer time provide ideal conditions for a flea infestation.

When temperature and humidity levels drop, so will flea activity, but flea pupa are encased in silken cocoons and can survive very harsh environmental conditions, only to emerge as adult fleas when the conditions become more suitable again.
