Does Ocean Water Kill Fleas?

If your dog swims in ocean water, it will kill any fleas or flea eggs on his body, because the high salt concentration in ocean water will dehydrate and kill all stages of the flea life cycle.

In addition, fleas do not have the ability to swim and they drown easily, so if your dog is given a bath or allowed to swim in the ocean, the fleas will drown and be washed away.

Spraying ocean water in a spray bottle directly on your pet or other objects as a method of flea control is likely to be less successful.

Instead, give your cat or dog a flea bath using a good flea shampoo, and give them monthly flea medications such as Frontline, and you will find that your flea infestation will be a thing of the past.
