Fleas can be killed by submerging them in hot water, as they are susceptible to drowning. If the fleas can reach the surface of the water, however, they can use the surface tension of the water and their powerful legs to propel themselves to safety.
You can kill fleas on your dog or cat by giving them a flea bath in warm to moderately hot water. Use a proper flea bath product which contains pesticides to ensure elimination of the fleas.
If you don’t have access to a proper flea bath product, you may substitute a mild liquid detergent as this will break the surface tension on the water and prevent fleas from launching themselves to safety.
If you have fleas or flea eggs on your clothes or bed linens, you can kill them by washing them in the clothes washer with hot water. Drying the clothes in the clothes dryer with high heat will also kill them.
